JAT (Joint Admission Test - Assam) General Information

Candidates for admission into the Undergraduate Courses in the Engineering Colleges, Medical Colleges, Regional Dental College and Ayurvedic College of the State of Assam and NIT (Assam state quota) shall be selected strictly on the basis of merit of Joint Admission Test conducted by the Director of Technical Education, Assam in places and time notified by the Director of Technical Education in Assam Gazette and News papers every year. The test is normally held in the month of May every year.

In the admission test the candidate must appear in the following papers:-

Mathematics  100 Marks 3 hours
Physics         100 Marks 3 hours
Chemistry      100 Marks 3 hours
Biology          100 Marks 3 hours 

Director of Technical Education, Assam will publish the merit list based on the result of the Joint Admission Test and Candidate shall be selected in order of merit from the list.
Candidate belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe or any other categories also must appear in the Joint Admission Test but they will be selected against the quota reserved for them according to merit.

EXEMPTION FROM ADMISSION TEST

The following categories of candidate are exempted from appearing in the Admission Test.:-

Candidate nominated against reserved seat for other State, Union Territories and Foreign Countries by their respective Government provided they satisfy the conditions for eligibility.
Candidate ranked within the first ten position in the Higher Secondary (Science) Examination of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, provided they get not less than 75% marks in aggregate in the year which they seek admission. Such candidate must appy for direct admission within 10 days of publication of their qualifying Examination results to the Director of Technical Education, Assam.

RESERVATION OF SEATS

A. Seats are reserved for the following categories of candidates of Assam.

Scheduled Caste 7% of College intake capacity
Scheduled Tribes (Plains) 10% of college intake capacity
Scheduled Tribes (Hills) 5% of college intake capacity
Other Backward Classes (including M.O.B.C) 15% of college intake capacity
Sons and Daughter of Ex-servicemen-1 seat in each college.
Sons, Daughter, Grandsons and Grand-daughters of freedom fighter (both paternal &maternal)- 2 seats in each college.
Physically handicapped- 1 seat in each college
Tea Garden labour community-1 seat in each college
Ex-tea Garden labour community-1 seat in each college
Best cadet of N.C.C.-1 seat in each college
Sportsman/Women representing States-1 seat in each college

B. In addition some seats are reserved for candidates nominated by the State of Sikhim, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram as per allocation of Govt. of India, Ministry of Human Resources Development Deptt, New Delhi.

C. Sons/Daughters of employees of Central Government and of Central Government Public Sector Undertaking posted in Assam and serving in the State at least for one year preceding the last date fixed for submitting application for admission and must not be permanent resident of Assam- No. of seats- 7

Permanent Residential Certificate from their respective states must be submitted.
