RECRUITMENT OF PROBATIONARY OFFICERS IN STATE BANK OF INDIA

Introduction

Applications are invited from eligible Indian Citizens for appointment as Probationary Officers in State Bank of India (SBI). Candidates selected for existing vacancies are liable to be posted anywhere in India.

VACANCIES : SC : 50, ST : 36, OBC : 142, GEN : 214, TOTAL : 442

Vacancies including reserved vacancies are provisional and may vary according to the requirements of SBI. Out of 442 vacancies, 51 vacancies (inclusive of 37 backlog vacancies) are reserved for physically handicapped candidates (42 vacancies for orthopaedically handicapped candidates and 09 vacancies for visually handicapped candidates), under Section 33 of the persons with Disabilities (Equal opportunities, protection of rights and full participation) Act, 1995.

Eligibility

(a) Educational Qualifications:

i) General Candidates and others - First Division in Graduation in any discipline with 65% or more marks
ii) SC/ST/Physically Handicapped Candidates - First Division in Graduation in any discipline with 60% or more marks
OR
iii) Degrees which are considered equivalent to graduation e.g. Chartered Accountant (CA), Cost Accountant (ICWA), Company Secretary (CS), as also qualifications in Management like MBA/PGDBM, subject to fulfillment of criteria as regards division and marks as stipulated above.
In addition to above, proficiency in computer and certificate of having completed training from a reputed Institute is also essential.

(b) Age Limit:

Not below 21 years and not above 30 years as on 01.07.2004 i.e. applicants must have been born between 01.07.1983 and 02.07.1974 (both days inclusive)

(c) Relaxation in Upper Age Limit For:

i) SC/ST candidates by 5 years

ii) OBC candidates by 3 years

iii) Ex-servicemen, Commissioned Officers, including those ECOs/SSOs who have rendered at least 5 years military service and have been released on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from the last date of receipt of application) otherwise by 5 years than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency or on account of physical disability attributable to military service or on invalidment.

iv) All Officers of Regional Rural Banks who have put in a minimum continuous service of 5 years

v) Persons dmiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period 01.01.80 to 31.12.89

vi) Orthopaedically/Visually handicapped candidates - by 10 years. Relaxation in upper age limit available to SC/ST/OBC candidates is allowed on cumulative basis with only one of the remaining categories for which age relaxation is permitted as mentioned above. Candidates seeking age relaxation are required to submit copies of necessary certificate(s) alongwith the application.

Selection Procedure

PHASE I

Candidates will be called for an objective and descriptive type written examination.
Question paper will be in bilingual form i.e. in Hindi and English except the test of English language. The objective type examination will consist of

  • Test of Reasoning,
  • Quantitative Aptitude,
  • General Awareness,
  • Psychometric test,
  • test of computer literacy and
  • English Language.

It is important for all the candidates to note that there will be negative marks for wrong answers. The descriptive type of test will consist of test of English language. There will be no negative marks for questions pertaining to psychometric tests and in descriptive type examination.

PHASE II

The Candidates who qualify on the basis of order of merit in the written examination of Phase I will be called for Group Discussion and Interview.
